Hey there! I'm Vivian. Sometimes I write about life and sometimes I write about teaching.

I’ve written about before–I’m really no good at remembering song lyrics. I can usually remember the chorus, but even that may be incomplete or incorrect. Yet, I find myself constantly connecting songs to random things people say.

Them: Doesn’t look like we’re getting any sunshine today.
Me: 🎶 Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone…

Them: How long have you lived in California?
Me: 🎶 California, knows how to party

Does this happen to anyone else?

  1. You are not alone. This happens in our house too. It’s so hard not to spring into a lyric when a conversation so perfectly sets it up!

    • Vivian Chen says:

Phew! More and more often the songs I break into aren’t familiar to anyone else because I’m old! LOL.

  2. anita ferreri says:

So funny but so common too, a least I think! My grandchildren often say things like I have to get out of here…and I start singing, “I have to get out of this place, if it’s the last thing I ever do..” They just laugh at me!

  3. Alice says:

I’m awful with song lyrics. But boy, can I hum or whistle the tune! Often, I can also la-la-la them, Phoebe Buffay style. And then people look at me like I came from another planet…

  4. Natasha says:

I love the examples you share–so fun! I know it does happen to me, but I can’t think of any examples at the moment. (Now I’m going to be thinking about this all night!)
