Arenaphobia

According to my husband, arenaphobia is the fear of sand. I’ve heard him use it many times over the years and never questioned it. Something in me decided to question it this week. He said it came from the Spanish word for sand, arena, plus phobia. I was dubious so I turned to my dictionary app. Nothing. It seems arenaphobia is not a word in the dictionary. I actually couldn’t find a credible source online for a word for fear of sand.

No matter because I don’t actually have a fear of sand.

This made me curious so I went looking. I found this:  Ammophobia or ammosophobia (from Greek ammos, “sand“) is the fear of sand.

I saw that too but I found it curious that it wasn’t on the Merriam-Webster site or any encyclopedia—had me a little suspicious of the accuracy. But we can make it official if we want!

How fun to wonder and to question and then to toss it all because it doesn’t really matter to our happiness at this moment. 😂😂
