Project update

Last month, or really, the beginning of this month, I started a new craft—embroidery. I’ve completed a stitch sampler, meant to help beginners like me learn different stitches and a little bunny scene for my niece. (Her room is decorated with woodland animals and we have a recurring character named Mr. Bunny that inevitably shows up in the stories we tell each over FaceTime.)

I find that it is indeed a very calming activity. Even if I listen to the horrible news while I’m stitching, I don’t get as emotional because I have to concentrate on the work at hand. It’s also a good don’t-forget-to-slow-down activity.

And if you don’t look too closely, I think they’re rather lovely. But don’t look too closely!

The bunny scene is adorable! The embroidery stitch samples create art of their own.

The sampler is a great way to become familiar with the stitches. The bunny is adorable. You are off and rolling.

These certainly don’t seem like a beginner! Your post reminded me that I have a bag of counted cross-stitch in the back of my closet that I worked on a “lifetime ago.” Maybe digging it out and working on it again will help me navigate the news and keep me off social media!

Whatever helps to tamp down the emotions arising in the face of the latest news is a gift. I love “Mr. Bunny” and see lots of inspiration here.

Needlework is a wonderful way to spend time. A story time over Facetime! Memories for both of you…and the bunny!

Your new project is lovely and your creative spirit is shining brightly! I used to do crewel work…perhaps I should try again.
