Thanks to Fran for inspiring this post.
My neighborhood is one that really likes their fireworks. Like the first of the season will start to go off in June and the occasional leftovers will continue until about September. While it’s fun to watch them from our deck on Fourth of July, sometimes we literally get tired of them because, well we can’t sleep. Either they’re too loud or the dog will jump and bark at them.
We’ve been hearing a few fireworks set off every so often since the beginning of June, nothing too loud. But this last Sunday, they really started to go off. That night my husband, H, took our dog out for a walk. As they were walking, the cracks and booms started. One was so loud I thought it was in our bedroom. According to H, Ginger, our poorly trained dog that likes to walk at the absolute end of her leash, stayed close to my husband’s side. This is her first Fourth of July in town since we adopted her.
“I wonder if there are so many fireworks going off tonight since the fireworks stands opened up this weekend.”
“Oh no, these aren’t those kind of fireworks,” H responded. “Those are more like M80s and other illegal ones, definitely not ‘safe and sane’!”
The next day I made arrangements for our dog to stay at doggy day care on the Fourth, where there won’t be any fireworks. Just in case.
