Lazy writer

I’ve been thinking about this idea for a while now–the use of emojis as lazy writing. It’s a befitting topic for today because I’m feeling pretty lazy as a writer. So often I want to use an emoji as punctuation. While I know it’s commonplace to send them in a text, but to include them in a blog post? It feels like a cheat. Like I should be able to paint the picture, describe the feeling without resorting to a cartoon. It is cheating isn’t it?!

My top 5 emojis as punctuation in some of my texts:

• I just binged four episodes while doing the laundry. 🙈 (So embarrassing!)
• I really just want to read Mrs. Wishy Washy. 😜 (I mean it, but just in case you think it’s a crazy idea…)
• I’m open to something else, but my brain is struggling. 😅 (Awkward laughing.)
• Gonna dance tomorrow. 🎉 (Woohoo!)
• I am not ready for you to be a full on teenager. 😭 (All the meanings of “crying”!)

I mean, some of these are more fun than any words, no? Don’t get me started on GIFs!

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.

Vivian, so true! I liked seeing your favorite emojis. I too use them as punctuation after texts. I might have to add this as a future slice! Just today I accidentally used 🤤when my brother sent a picture from vacation. There was no food involved!

This is a fun post! I am not a big emoji user, but I do sometimes use the cat face ones and also the 100.

I am often uncertain of the latest meaning of an emoji, so I appreciate your notes in parenthesis. And I was pleased with myself that I “got” Denise’s error, and didnt make it myself!

PS- I’d read your future rif on GIF’s!
