Hello, (not so) fresh

Anyone else subscribe to a meal delivery service? My husband and I started a few months ago and at first I loved it. I hate wasting food and with just two of us in the house, a lot of produce was going into the trash. I also can’t overthink what to make for dinner because the decision has already been made. Getting the ingredients delivered also cuts down on the time and energy spent on picking out produce.

My husband can pick out 6 apples in less than 30 seconds. It takes me almost 30 seconds to pick just one. Each apple has to be blemish-free, have a nice color, give me the vibe that it’ll be crunchy. And this close scrutiny goes for just about any other produce. Having someone else pick out the veggies has helped me learn to be a little less discerning, which is good because looks aren’t everything.

But our last few deliveries have included cilantro that was beyond wilted, a tomato too mushy to possibly be good, and a pepper that was rotten! This has sent me to the store to purchase the items myself. While the company does give us a credit when this happens, I don’t think it covers the cost of my time. They don’t know what kind of shopper I am.

I threaten to stop the subscription once and for all, but then I remember how much longer it would take me to pick up all the items than just the one. And I get a meal like the one below, which was pretty darn good.

I have a friend that goes the Blue Apron route and she just loves it. I have never tried a service like this. I feel that my shopping habits are like your husband’s. I’ll go in and if an item looks good after a cursory glance, into the cart it goes.

      Y’all are monsters! Jkjkjk.
I’ve been thinking about giving Blue Apron a try. Good to know there’s a fan.

I have not, yet, tried the subscription route but will likely soon. I find cooking for one to be both boring and wasteful, at best!

I like cooking, but when I had to cook just for myself, I hated it!

We used to subscribe to one of those meal delivery things. Unfortunately for us, I am a lactose-intolerant pescatarian and my husband cannot eat hot spices. So every time we got a box I ended up going to the grocery store to replace the items we couldn’t eat. I decided I might as well just skip the box and go to the store!

Oh, I’d be so disappointed if the service that was supposed to save me time cost me extra minutes at the store (and I enjoy grocery shopping).

    Thanks for sharing.
