Blog roulette

On Saturday morning I was nearly late to my event; I was busy reading slices. Most mornings I set a timer and read while I eat breakfast and drink my coffee, but it was the weekend and I had plenty of time…until I didn’t.

With so many posts to choose from, I can become paralyzed with indecision. I want to read them all. To overcome this, I’ve been playing Blog Roulette. The way you play is to scroll up (or down) the list of posts and randomly stop. Whatever link is there, is the one you read.

I was playing this game on Saturday and all was going well until…what was that? A post from a slicer I read often caught my eye. Let me read one more. Oops, I didn’t post my own slice yet. Scroll down to the en–what was that? Another post from a different slicer that I read often. Okay, I have time for one more. Running out of time now. Better post my own…yikes, there’s another one! Last one…oh no! I’m going to be late. I’ll post mine later.

Day 11, people! Let’s keep it going.

Love tis. Reading blogs is like eating Lays potato chips, nobody can eat (read) just one. We are now in the double-digit days of the month. We can keep it going!

Yes, those intriguing teasers entice one to read just one more!

I have had this rule for a long time: I post my link, then I read the last three posts right before mine. I also have some regular blogs I visit, so this keeps me from only going to those! Sometimes I do a blog roulette too!

I set a goal for 20 blog posts on Saturday; I made it to 10. Yesterday I was happy with seven. There is such fierce loyalty at work once you’ve read and commented on a blog. Writing is a way of getting to know, and I find it hard to turn my back on that. Boy, reading can get away from us.

A lot! I read a lot of Slices! So many great writers… old friends and new. There’s always one more!

I read many slices too. As a retired educator, I should play blog roulette. Instead, I get distracted by bloggers I know and topics that pull me in.

I am reading and comment limited during the week although I usually make it to around 5 a day. I have some favorites and try to include at least one new-to-me slicer per day. Not ideal but it’s what I can manage.

You capture well the multitasking involved in spontaneous slice reading. In March, slices are my Netflix, though this year I’ve been preoccupied with some emergencies. Despite it all, this community has been a safe haven and lifeline during the storms of life. Your teaser drew me in today- on average I comment on about 5-10 a day.

Blog roulette! I’ll try this strategy. I like that it adds chance to the selection process.

addictive…I can see how that can happen. Love the idea of blog roulette–I do have a random procedure, just hadn’t thought of it in quite that way! Feels more elegant and intentional when you name it!

Vivian, this is so clever! I will definitely play blog roulette tonight. I usually post at night, and then comment until I should be sleeping!

So fun, and you’re right!! It’s so difficult to choose and so difficult to stop reading (just to fulfill other responsibilities?! 😜)

I get that way, too. When I’m running low on time, I have to very consciously stop myself from reading the teasers, but it’s so hard! I love the idea of playing roulette and seeing where the scrolling stops. I loved the whole slice. This in particular resonated with me: “Scroll down to the en–what was that? Another post from a different slicer that I read often. Okay, I have time for one more.” –You’ve captured this “addiction” perfectly!

What a perfect slice for all of us! Reading and commenting on posts is part of the fun of the SOLSC month of March! I’m enjoying seeing the slices of authors from years past too. Just so fun!

What a fun slice to read and a great idea you’ve shared with us! As others have said, I often have that same problem with wanting to read more than I have time for. Thanks for the encouragement to keep going!
