People who need…dogs

Shay Shay was the first dog I ever owned as an adult. When she passed it was devastating and I didn’t think I could ever have another dog. How could I possibly go through that pain again? But one of my friends, a fellow dog owner, insisted that we should get another dog right away. I couldn’t do it. My husband, on the other hand, couldn’t do without another dog. Within a couple of months we welcomed Princess into our family.

Fast forward nine years. If you’ve read past posts you might already know that Princess passed away in November of last year. Again, I didn’t want to get another dog right away. And again, my husband did. We had plans to travel during the summer so I convinced him it wasn’t good idea to find another dog until we returned. But in the meantime, I could see how much he really missed having a dog.

Summer travels completed, I agreed to make a visit to the pound this last weekend. It wasn’t long before we found Ginger. And now our family is complete again.

Oh, the heartbreak that comes from love, even love of a furbaby! Congratulations on your new family member. I hope you have many wonderful years together!

Having had and lost pets I understand the not wanting to get another. However, home isn’t complete without them. Ginger has found her furever home. Congratulations to her and to you.

That is ONE BEAUTIFUL DOG. And look at that smile you’ve got there! Yes, there’s something to be said for having the love and affection of a dog. We have a (highly!) geriatric mutt and we adopted a lab puppy last February. Part of me wondered why on earth we’d get another dog now that the kids are out of the house – aren’t we supposed to think about enjoying freedom? – but I mean. The joy she brings to our house is 100% worth it.

Enjoy your new adventures with Ginger. I do hope that pooch will make some appearances in a future blog post!

Thanks Lainie! My brain always says, “remember how nice it is to not have the responsibility of a dog?” and then my heart says, “but look at how cuuuuuuuuute!” LOL
