Today’s slice is inspired by this book:
Saturday evening, Hoff and Vivian went on a date to see the Ukrainian “ethnic chaos” band, DakhaBrakha.
Oh, that’s good!
No, that’s bad!
When they got to the theater there was a long line wrapped around the block and only 15 minutes until show time. A man barked, “It doesn’t matter if you’re will call or you have a ticket, get in that line!”
Oh, that’s bad!
No, that’s good!
Vivian and Hoff got to see so many people with Ukrainian flags, Ukrainian shirts, Ukrainian traditional clothing. There was so much love and support for the Ukrainian people in the line.
Oh, that’s good!
No, that’s bad!
While standing in line, Vivian decided to check her phone for their tickets, when she remembered the tickets were PAPER. And they were still in the drawer at home!
Oh, that’s bad!
No, that’s good!
She ran up to the front of the line to find out if she had to go home to get the tickets to get into the show. A kind woman in a uniform said, “No, don’t worry. If you have your receipt you can get into that line up there to the left.” She pointed to a short line in front of the looooooong line.
Oh, that’s good!
No, that’s bad!
Her husband Hoff was still waaaaay back and around the corner, waiting in that long line.
Oh, that’s bad!
No, that’s good!
An elderly staff member said to Vivian, “In all my years working here, the line has never been this bad!” Vivian listened and nodded sympathetically. The staff member asked, “Did I check your vaccination card?”
“No, my husband is still waiting for me in that line,” she pointed behind her.
“Oh no, call him and tell him to come up here! He doesn’t need to wait back there, if you’re up here,” the kind gentleman said.
Oh, that’s good!
No, that’s bad!
When Hoff got to the front of the line, some other people were getting confused and upset because the line hadn’t moved. Another group of people were in the wrong line and there were 17 of them! A not-so-nice staff member who was having a not-so-good night said, “Just let everyone in!”
“We can’t do that!” a security guard said. People started pushing and trying to move up. It was getting a little scary.
Oh, that’s bad!
No, that’s good!
The kind woman in the uniform who told Vivian to get in the line in the first place showed up again and said, “Let these two in! They have seats.” Hoff and Vivian, quickly moved through security to get into the theater once and for all.
“Have a nice evening!” the security guard said as he waved them in.
Oh, that’s good!
No, that’s GREAT!

Wow, Vivian, I love the story you told after That’s Good! That’s Bad! Very fun. I’m glad you were able to get into the theater, despite the setbacks getting in!
That is good and bad! But the post is great and the outcome was, as well.
I have never heard of the book, That’s Good That’s Bad.
You cleverly inserted the refrain into your slice, which has the reader anticipating what could go askew.
Oh, this post is good! Glad it all worked out!
So happy things worked out well for you in the end. Looking at the good and bad of the same happening was a clever format for this post.
Vivian! Bravo! I love this story and it’s switching perspectives. Then going from good to great is the best. Hope you had a wonderful time at the concert,
Now I need that book! Love this format, and the suspense of the event!
