Hey there! I'm Vivian. Sometimes I write about life and sometimes I write about teaching.

I started this challenge by thanking the slicers who read and leave comments–the people who keep me going each day. Now that we’ve passed the halfway mark, I need to send gratitude once again. I wouldn’t have made it to this point without you! Thankyouthankyouthankyou!

But I also have to apologize. One thing I really love is the connection I feel when a slicer comments on my comment on their slice. However, as much as I love the thoughtful comments on my own posts, I never seem to be able to find the time to respond like I want to. 😞 I think of things I’d like to say, but the words rarely make it to the page.

How do you keep up?

  1. First … I didn’t even register we are halfway so thank you!! I have never managed to reply on my blog mostly because I can’t figure out how to see if someone replies to my comment on their blog. I tried one year to get notifications of comments on other people’s blogs and I got buried. Now I try to respond to what they say on my blog in my comment on their blog (emphasize TRY!) Thank you for saying this — it is always on my mind as well. And …. congratulations!

I feel the same way! It’s very time consuming to read and leave comments. I saw a slicer say she reads and likes everything she reads as a nod to the writer, so they know someone is reading their words (even if she doesn’t have time to comment.) One thing I’m trying is to comment on 3 in the morning. Then throughout the day when I check in with comments made to me, I comment on at least one more each time. Maybe one of those ideas will work for you?

    Eh.

Some days I keep up, some days I don’t. I figure, the earth is billions of years old. If I miss a day, the people around me will still love me all the same. =))

Sometimes what I do is I open up tabs for all the blogs I want to read, then I close each tab as I’ve read it. And sometimes, I read and enjoy people’s writing, but I can’t quite think of how to respond. So I either don’t, or I put it off until later, when I let their ideas marinate…

I like seeing the comments on this post. It’s helpful to see what other people do!

Vivian, you hit the nail on the head! Keeping up looks like commenting more on some days and less on others. I too, appreciate the way this community nourishes us. Yet, like you simply getting my own blog written feels like an epic feat on some days. Thank You & I’m Sorry seem like part of the human condition. I’m glad you are here!

I agree with the other comments…some days are better than others, definitely. I love sinking into the world of Slicers, but I often do it on my phone and I am too old to manage commenting with that technology!! Keep writing and just doing the best you can!

  6. This is a great question! I do skip a few days each month of responding to comments on my blog, but I try to respond most of the time. I usually do it at the end of the day all at once or first thing in the morning before I write my slice. I try to keep it very short even if I have lots of things I want to say in response. That way, I can power through and get it done!

It is hard to find the time to do all the commenting on comments when there are so many other things vying for our attention.
