Making the best of things

Yesterday as I walked across the school yard, a tiny little kindergartner came running toward me. “Excuse me!” he called out. I stopped to see what this interruption was about. He proudly handed me a handmade pink card. “For me?” I asked. He nodded beaming at his handiwork. Even though I was running late to my next class visit, I took a moment to admire the card alongside the little boy whose name is Abel. And even though I was already late, I couldn’t help but ask him to tell me about what he had written in this card.

“I wanted to draw a heart, but I did it upside down so I made a person,” he explained.

“Oh, what a smart way to solve your problem!” I smiled and thanked him. He smiled back and ran off to rejoin his class who were on their way to the next activity.

I found out later that his class had been making and distributing kindness notes. 🥰 Abel’s small act of kindness was a good reminder that we can often make what looks like a mistake into something better.

This is so, so sweet! I love that he was thinking of you and made a sweet card, but also love the message that a little mistake can be turned into something incredible!

Those little things. They’re the big things, aren’t they? THANK YOU for this spot of wonder and joy. It’s just what I needed!

If we could all do what that child did. Thanks for sharing this sweet story.
