I almost didn’t write today because…well, I’m tired! But I couldn’t go yet another week of not posting; I’ve already missed two.
As I was sitting here thinking about how I didn’t want to miss writing another blog post, but also how I just want to sit on the couch and watch episodes of Truth Be Told (so good, y’all!), I wondered how people have free time during the week. To be fair, I do have free time, but usually I’m too exhausted to do anything with it. After a day at school and spending 2 and half hours commuting, I am done. Luckily, I only have to take care of me, my dog, and my partner and because we have an unusual living arrangement, sometimes I only have to take care of me. But yet there are people out there doing the same thing all day and then coming home to make dinner for the family, check kids’ homework, get kids tucked into bed, all that, and still have free time to blog regularly about their Pinterest-ready classrooms. Who are these people? Are you one of them?
What is the secret? No sleep? Better sleep? Someone let me in on the magic!
I don’t want to be done at the end of the day. I have so many projects that I dream about doing. I have workouts that I want to do. I block out time in my planner to devote time to these projects and these workouts, but mostly they don’t get done. Because I’m tired.
Hey, but I didn’t miss writing my blog post this week!
I wish I had the answer! I don’t have that commute .. and I’m exhausted. Can’t believe I’m still up, actually!
Good job writing through the tired!
The school year can be so exhausting. I think the end of September is especially so as the “start of the year” adrenaline wears off. Just know, you are not alone!
I appreciate your honesty here! I am struggling with the same thing. I find myself feeling grumpy when I no longer have the energy to do the things I really want to do. For me, it helps to start my day with writing. That way no matter what happens during the day, I have started it on my own terms doing something that I love.
I always thought that when I retired I would have lots of time to do what I wanted when I wanted. Ha! For me, the things that need to get done, do. The things that should be done get done…eventually.
I feel as though there’s never enough time in a day anymore so I felt this with my full soul! The school year is exhausting. The first months are hard, especially after a summer “off.” (Who really takes a summer off as an educator? None that I know.)
Somehow, you’ll find a way to make it all fit in. Once you do, would you be willing to share it in a TWT Voices from the Community piece? https://twowritingteachers.org/voices-from-the-community/
Oh my goodness this post just resonates to my bones! I love writing, but lately, it’s just been hard to open the blog up! I’ve been up late looking at computer science things or trying to grade or just look at my computer thinking, “Why did I open this tab?”. It’s a March or April tired in September, and that’s not good.
Things I’m trying to overcome this: sleep (going to bed between 9:00 – 9:30), exercise (trying to workout at least every other day), and diet (little higher protein and lower carb kind of thing). If I feel better, I’ll let you know. Right now, I just want to sleep and there’s a list of things to do when I get home.
Sorry, I’m blogging on your blog! Just know, as others have all ready said, you are not alone! 🙂
I can’t wait to hear how it goes!
Oh, I well remember the September exhaustion! Hang in there. Do one thing you love a day, even when you’re tired. I’m sure you must already listen to audio books on your long commute. Look for something that makes you laugh!
Great advice!
I’ve had this post pinned to read since you wrote it…and I’m just now getting around to it, which tells you I am in the same exact place. Plan the evening things, then come home and do little to nothing…sigh. I wish I could tell you the magic answer. I am one of those people who gets up extra early to have “me” time–I write, read, move my body a little, look at my personal email and do some Facebook scrolling in the morning. That seems to help stem any resentment about being exhausted at the end of the day, but it doesn’t help get stuff done. Sigh.
The struggle is real!
