I was first inspired by Glenda’s post to do my own “Depending on when you met me” entry.
Depending on when you met me, I might have been a middle schooler in a Madonna lip-syncing contest in a teen club in Houston, Texas; an aerobics class and spin instructor at the YMCA; a teenager ditching class, watching the clouds while laying on the grass at the Huntington Library; a screaming fan at the Duran Duran concert; my grandmother’s English tutor; a cashier at Marie Callender’s serving pie at the counter; an assistant to the executive director of a nonprofit organization; an unwitting model for graduation photos at the UCLA portrait center; a guest at her dad’s wedding in Taiwan; a curriculum consultant in London; a stepmom to two boys; a tourist in Thailand, Europe, China, Mexico; a bride at a church in San Gabriel or at City Hall in San Francisco; an aunt to two nephews and a niece, each from a different sibling; a runaway for a day; a college graduate for the second time, ten years later; a camp counselor for 9-year-old girls, gasping for air to pass the swim test so they could use the pool; a lingerie salesperson at a department store; a marathon runner; a sprint triathlete swimming in the ocean for the first time; a sister; a daughter; a partner in life.

This is fantastic. I want to hear more about your tutoring of your grandmother. You’ve made me think about things I left out of my post, including travel, which I love.
