Multiple meaning words

I’ve been looking at LinkedIn and EDJOIN a lot this year. While there is a lot to love about working with teachers, I miss working directly with students. And it turns out I kind of hate being self-employed and having to hustle. I like to hustle when it’s planning units or lessons, not getting or keeping contracts.

One day, as I was looking at the suggested openings on LinkedIn, a listing caught my eye: Peace Corps is hiring an Instructional Coach (remote). I wondered how that would work—remote coaching. I’ve done it before on a limited scale, but it wasn’t ideal. I clicked to read more. The description of the work was definitely in my wheelhouse.

Could this be my next venture? Should I apply? I started making plans in my head to update my resume, contact potential references. I kept scrolling to find out more about the application process when everything came to a screeching halt. “Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Belize…”

It turns out when they said “remote,” they meant remote!

While I was reading, I was wondering where the homonym confusion would be. It is not where I expected it to be. Good thing you caught that before you finished the application process!

Well, that would be an adventure, one you are not joining, I think! I hope you do find work that fulfills you. Working with students is usually very rewarding.

Ah! Remote/remote. My daughter is applying for jobs and when I read the descriptions I sometimes have this confusion. I really like how you take us along in this short piece until that screeching halt moment when the miscommunication is revealed!

The surprise ending is a winner! (I’ve got to say I’ve always wanted to visit Belize but relocate? Nope.) Cool that you’re keeping your eyes open for another adventure though. And maybe the confusion comes partly from our experience with the pandemic. Remote became such an operative term we hardly thought it needed any clarification.

Ohhhhh QUITE remote. I can see the mix-up. And now I’m wondering if that would have been a question pre-Covid. Like…I’m sure lots of folks worked remotely, but it’s like I can’t remember it really being a THING on my radar until then.

But if you DO find another opportunity to coach? I say go for it!
