Room with a view

Today I’m working at a school with an ocean view. It’s not right on the water, but you can make out the golden ripples beyond the houses. If the camera lens moved to the left you’d catch a container ship floating by. And a little to the left of that you’d see the giant cranes moving the cargo coming in and out of the port.

I’ve never had a classroom with an ocean view. I’ve had an asphalt playground, the building next door, and an enchanted forest–that’s what the land with the handful of trees was called. (At one point it became an insider-only name because some families objected to the term “enchanted,” but that’s another story.) There was also that one time I had a room that had a view of the downtown skyline. But never an ocean view.

What is or was the view from your office or classroom?

Happy first day of spring! What a stunning view — wow. The photo and description are lovely. I am intrigued by the enchanted forest, for sure.

(I see my school’s parking lot, backyards of houses — very suburban. But a lot of trees in the area, too).

The view from my first classroom was Market and Catawissa Streets. It was a corner room. The school was above St. Canicus Schuch. I also had a view of the alley that ran behind St. Jerome’s School. I was a reading specialist running between two schools. An ocean view, wow!

So many years in special ed classrooms with no windows including a shared trailer. Ick. If there had been a window, we would have seen the asphalt playground.

Classrooms without windows should be outlawed!

Fields, track, hint of highway beyond deciduous trees naked in winter, but…ocean in the distance now. Life at sea level.
