Menu problems

We have book club tomorrow and the book we’re reading is The Seamstress of New Orleans. The member who is hosting loves a themed event and so do I. So we put our heads together to create a simple menu that would represent New Orleans.

As I scrolled through some ideas I said, “Oooh, what about bananas foster french toast?” I was already looking at the ingredients.

“Ew, I hate bananas. And I really hate bananas foster,” she responded. Well that wasn’t going to do.

We both agreed that making beignets and then bringing them over would result in less than ideal pastries. And frying them at her house was out of the question.

We finally resigned ourselves to regular french toast or pain perdu. She doesn’t know it yet, but I decided to make it prailine pecan flavor.

Today I went to buy the ingredients and realized I needed to make it gluten-free. It turns out gluten-free french bread isn’t that easy to find, but I did. Phew.

One last hurdle to this breakfast will come tomorrow morning. Will it bake as expected? I’ll let you know!

I am sure it will turn out just fine. As you said, you already have a topic for a future post.

I am so impressed that your book club meets for BREAKFAST, and with themes too. It’s a pity that beignets are out of the question, but praline pecan French toast should hit the spot! I hope the book club meeting goes flawlessly.

This themed book club sounds like a delight, and the source of your slice to boot! Fingers crossed all goes well in the kitchen.
