Lucky day

Last Wednesday, the lunar new year, I decided to take a break from social media and the news for the day. Instead of mindlessly scrolling, I made a concerted effort to pay attention to all the lucky/positive things that happened to me that day, no matter how small.

I jotted nine things but probably could’ve recorded 20 if I had been more disciplined. Here are a few of my favorites:

1. The phlebotomy tech was able to get my blood sample with just one jab–not an easy feat with my nonexistent veins.

2. It’s confirmed that I indeed do have enough Social Security credits to receive benefits once I’m eligible…in 13 years, unless of course the politicians raise the qualifiying age or get rid of it altogether. This is especiallly great in light of the new Social Security Fairness Act.

3. While there weren’t any dedicated bike racks at the aquarium we were visiting that night, security allowed our group to lock up our bikes on a railing near the entrance and most lucky of all, our bikes were still there at the end of our outing.

Was it a particularly lucky day? Probably not, though I like to think it was since it was the start of the new year and what happens on that day sets the tone for year. I’m guessing it felt lucky because I was paying better attention, I was more open to the possibility of good things happening.

Maybe this is the way to be every day of the year!

    Great observation.

My friend calls this ” Be where your feet are.” It’s definitely a different point of view!

I had to smile at your first piece of luck. Kathy has small veins and is considered a hard stick. They usually end up using a butterfly on her. I like the idea of focusing on positives. We need to do that more than ever these days.

Just one stick is always a plus! My post was about focusing on the positive too. I think we could all use more of this in our lives right now.

Just one stick is definitely a positive! My tiny veins means most phlebotomy tech’s are the kindest to me.

Focusing on the positive is a VERY powerful way to start this new year and focus your energies on looking for the good in each day. Long ago, I started a “grateful box” that I revisit and contribute to irregularly but always with a reminder of the many small blessings in my life. PS I hope the SS system holds you in the palm of their hand!

It is something that I think everyone should do in these days that try human souls—pay attention to the small wins, wherever they may be…and even if we have to struggle to find them.

I think I always feel happier when I look for the little joys and bits of luck in my life. Happy Nee Year!
