Inertia

Now that summer is upon us, I’m struggling to get things done. Not because I’m too busy, but because of physics. Newton’s first law of motion or something like that–a body at rest remains at rest.

Turns out it’s a lot easier to check things off the to-do list when you’re busy checking things off the to-do list. A body in motion, stays in motion and all that. Once I rest, it’s all over. The force to overcome inertia is so great it leads to laundry sitting on the chair for more days than I care to admit, while I sit on the couch binging the next cult documentary. (Side note: have y’all watched the one on Jonestown?? I read a book about Jim Jones as a kid, at too young of an age to be sure. Scary.) I guess this is why so many of my summer projects go unfinished.

Writing this blog post was an external force that has moved me a bit. Maybe now I’ll get the dishes done.

I can totally identify. It’s easy to let inertia take the front seat. Kudos to you for completing this blog post!

Oh, I get it! And our devices are so tempting but most require sitting. I think it is fine to be really indulgent for awhile, and then get up! Who knows what will have been simmering?

Ooof, the devices–so tempting! One minute on social media is equal to half an hour of real time.

Ha – I know exactly what you mean. I have a number of projects that MUST get done this summer, and have yet to start. Ok, I’ve only been on vacation a few days…but oh yeah, inertia is real. I appreciate the truths here so much – and the comfort of knowing I’m not alone!

It always seems that when the school year ends the air is let out of us and it is hard to do much of anything except just exist. Enjoy your down time. Other things will get done when they get done.

This was perfect timing. June has so NOT been my typical June. In June I usually start Christmas projects, identify my first list of gifts, and race for the finish line. Today I completed a depression survey where I stated that if anxiety was a synonym for depression, I was in deep dodo. Too anxious for xyz, to find a beginning point. And boy does inertia feel comfortable!

Christmas projects! I used to think I was so ahead of the game when I started shopping in October. LOL. Here’s hoping that your anxiety is quelled and you can enjoy the summer!

Oh, Vivian, good for you! You wrote a blog post and maybe got your dishes done. I love how you understand the physics of the early summer. Enjoy the inertia for a while.

Thanks Denise! The key is not to enjoy for too long. Haha.

Ha! This is perfect! An object in motion…too many half finished projects (hello, decluttering) on my end and I so hear you on the piled up laundry. I may be wearing the same t-shirt and shorts too many days in a row. A person on Netflix stays on Netflix…I’m a bit leery on watching anything, but I’ve almost finished season one of Young Sheldon. Happy summering!

OMG–the never-ending decluttering projects! Young Sheldon has been on my list, but between the cult docs and K-dramas, nothing else gets watched. Haha. Happy summering!

I love this description of inertia as simply the law of physics–very clever! I can relate all too well!

I’m embarrassed to say this, but I never took physics! 😅
      So glad I’m not alone.
