I have a very sensitive sniffer.

This can be both a blessing and a curse. It can definitely be a curse when you’re a middle school teacher…IFYKYK (if you know, you know).

I’m always asking my husband, “Do you smell that?” or “Does that smell weird?” Oftentimes the response is, “I don’t smell anything.” But one thing my husband always picks up on is someone’s cologne or perfume.

So after a dinner out one recent evening–a dinner where I thought the wine lacked aroma and my husband said it was bland, a dinner when the smell of fajitas was faint (when is that ever true), and the queso fundido lacked flavor (again, is this possible)-my husband said, “Whew! Did you smell that?”

“What smell?” I asked. I looked at him bewildered.

“You didn’t smell that guy’s cologne?” he asked, shocked that the one who smells everything smelled nothing. Nothing.

And that’s when I knew COVID got me.
